Understanding
It Right.

Let me first establish the
meaning of “job interview”. It is a
formal conversation with someone designed to elicit information or assess the sustainability
of candidate(s) for a post. Simply put, a job interview is a formal meeting in
which someone is asked questions to find out whether he/she is suitable for a
particular job being advertised for.
What Job Jnterview Is and What It Is Not;

Simply, an interview is;
- Not a meeting to transfer aggression from
frustration or inadequacy rather, it is place where your competencies and
skills market you.

MUST give me this
job rather, it is place
where you act with comportment that will
say whether the work
is yours or not.
- Not a meeting to display nonchalance rather, it is a
meeting of positivism.
- Not a place of insincerity rather, it is a place of
absolute honesty and sincerity.
- Not a place of frustration rather, a place of
positive rejection so that you can find out where you are best suited.
Before you can even apply
for a job, ask yourself some critically reviewed questions to ascertain your suitability
in the job if called for interview. This
is simply because we work to learn not
to earn. Ask questions like;
2.
Will this work
make
me or mar me?
me or mar me?
3.
Can I adapt to
the condition(s) of this job?
4.
How much am I
willing to sacrifice
for this job?
willing to sacrifice
for this job?
5.
Am I qualified
for
this job?
this job?
6.
Why do I need
or want this job?
After you might have
settled these questions in your mind, then you should know these;
- You must put up a positive attitude towards the
interview.
- Interviews are not gotten casually or randomly so you
must attend to them with care.
- You must work intently hard to market yourself
during the interview.
- Start preparing on time. Never allow time to boycott
you and you begin to do a hasty crash preparation.
- Plan your questions, prepare your statements and
process your documents. Make every minute count.
Common Interview Ethics
Time:
It is the most expensive and most perishable
resource of an employer. Time management
is an effective tool in profit maximization and can not be tampered with. There is no excuse acceptable for lateness to
interview, so you must be up and doing.

1.
Standing and
sitting down often and on in an interview waiting room.
2.
Looking at
your wrist watch often and on before and during interview.
3.
Tapping the
interview table with your hands often and on during interview.
4.
Being absent
minded during interview.
Mind insecurity, in the
other hand, is a situation where you feel highly uncomfortable with the
interview which may result from non-preparedness, lack of confidence,
inferiority complex or some other skeleton that you may think you have in your
cupboard. This can rob you of the job. So, you learn to live prepared and not live
to get prepared.
Signs of mind insecurity
are;
1.
Unexpected
shivering.
2.
Lacks
composure and confidence.
3.
Undue
quietness.
4.
Feeling of
inadequacy.
5.
Inability to
express oneself.
6.
Deviation from
answers to questions.
Dressing:
Formal and/or corporate dressing code is very
important in job interviews. During your
research in the company, you should be able to find their co-operate
colours. Wearing jeans and sleeveless
wears are highly prohibited in corporate workplaces. Off colours and colour
riots are also prohibited. Most
generally accepted colours (for shirts and must be long-sleeved) are black, ash
or gray, sky blue and white. These can come in form of plane or checked shirts.
For trouser; black, ash or gray and brown (carton). For ties; red, black, gold and ash or gray.
These can be plane or checked. The shoes
are often black or brown as also the belts. Plane shirts go with plane ties and
vice versa.
Note: some companies have their own colours which
are not listed above; finding about them can help you.
Also,
the cream and perfume you use is very important as some of them are not
generally accepted because of their awful fragrance. You must be elegant. Simply Elegant!
Slangs:
They are
informal expressions used among a particular group of people. If it is informal, then, it should not be
used in a formal meeting or conversation. Examples of such words are yep, yah,
yea, nigga, folk, fella, aight, bros, chairman, oga, duke, don, monk among
others.
In summary;
- Never be late to an interview.
- Never accept impatience and mind insecurity.
- Formal and co-operate dressing is important.
- Avoid color riots in your dressing.
- Never be in a haste to answer questions but be
timely, precise, articulate and accurate in answering your questions.
- Do not show your interviewer that you are more
intelligent and learned than him.
- Avoid the use of slangs like yea, yah, yep, nah,
nope, aight, nigga, bros, chairman, and so on.
- Dress to match the job you are being interviewed
for.
- Always attempt any question. Never say “NO IDEA”.
- Avoid any form of argument with your interviewer.
But in a polite and non-insulting approach, make your suggestion else forget
any argument.
- Know the vocabulary of the job you are applying for
before going to the interview deck.
- Be humble and sincere but never be intimidated,
confused or compromising.
