Intrapreneurs (jobseekers) are increasingly
trooping to the labour market everyday but the truth remains that, the jobs
available can not satisfy the numbers looking for the job. Because of this scenario, the labour market
had become a platform that demoralizes professionalism. This is based on the simple adage “when the
desirable is not available, the available becomes desirable”. This situation had resulted to enterprise
quagmire such like low productivity, little or no employee motivation, loss of
enterprise reputation, incidents with special default on accident cases resulting
to loss of lives, injuries, loss of enterprise’s reputation, fatalities and
other harm to enterprise and employee. Most
employees are afflicted with stress resulting from lack of job satisfaction,
lack of motivation and incentives, lack of required expertise, knowledge,
experience and skills among others.
Also, most Intrapreneurs are so much buried with the concept of earning
much money thereby exposing themselves to the dangers of getting a living
rather than freedom from financial struggle.
Many of us get well-paid, yet we are not satisfied, we rather prefer to
earn than to learn. You can only end-up by embarking on a suicide mission and
perpetual bondage.
I will simplify this article by going
straight to our target “Six Ways To Get A Job Within One Month.”
BECOME A PROBLEM
SOLVER
If there is something that this world needs
desperately now, it is problem solvers and not problem broadcasters. One of the things that will take you speedily
to the top is developing a problem solving skill as a professional. Your
ability to be proactive; seeing problems before they arise, assessing/analyzing
and mitigating them had become an essential skill that all intrapreneurs must
possess. The globe is faced with serious threats that need to be fixed. Threats
in our security sector, socio-political, economic, religious and financial
sectors, energy, oil and power, manufacturing, service, education, agriculture among
others. So also do uncountable problems exist in every enterprise and they are
doggedly searching for who to fix these problems. In my experience so far, I’ve discovered that
problem solvers are few while problem broadcasters are innumerable. Companies are looking for problem-solvers to
help them fix their mess environmentally, project-wise, administratively, in
their information, quality, risk, schedule, stress, time, and resource
management among others. You have to discover these problems and put up
measures on how to mitigate them. If you
can succeed in this, you will become greatly saleable. No company is ready to
employ you if you don’t have anything to offer because you will constitute a
hazard/liability and any company employing you is taking a huge risk. I have come across many intrapreneurs that
get dumb-founded during interviews when they are asked “what can you do for
this company?” or “why do you want to work with this company?” The riches of this world belong to
problem-solvers. Do not just discover the problem, solve the problem.
UNDERSTAND THE
PHASES OF JOB EMPLOYMENT
There
are three basic phases of job employment.
1.
Application
2.
Interview
( can be written aptitude test, telephone, lunch, oral interview or any other)
3.
Offer
(temporary contract offer, permanent appointment among others).
As
an intrapreneur, you have to understand these phases as they will help you
prepare adequately for the job. First,
you must know about writing curriculum vitae or resume, application (cover)
letters, and reminder letters among others effectively. To conquer this phase,
you must develop high proficiency in writing, reading and research skills. Properly
written CVs and cover letters attract potential employers which gives you a
direct access to the interview deck.
The next you should be aware of is the
interview phase. You have to develop a high proficiency in communication skill
both oral and written. Learn to be audible, demonstrative (enthusiasm and
passion) and straight to point. Be able to convince your potential employer and
not to confuse him. Sale yourself! You
also have to develop high proficiency in other corporate skills like dressing
smartly and elegantly, avoid use of slangs, good body language, good time
management, leadership skills among others. As there are varying interviewing
techniques, you also have to diversify in your preparation. Your interview may not be face-to-face oral
or aptitude test interview, it may rather be a lunch or breakfast interview,
online or telephony interview or any other one as chosen by the interviewer.
The
last phase is the offer. If you
scale-through the first two phases, you will be given an appointment letter
either on contract, temporary or permanent bases. During this phase, negotiations are made and
agreements bearing the terms and conditions for offer are signed and sealed.
You must be careful as this may also constitute part of your interview. If you
don’t really want to loose the job, then you must be careful with the
negotiation. Prior to the negotiation table, you have to define what your goals
are; Are you working to learn or to earn? Are you interest in the experience or
in the interest? Are you working for money or is money working for you? On the
negotiation table, you will be asked “How much can we pay you?”. Your answers
to the above questions will direct you to answering them.
UNDERSTANDING JOB
SEASON
That
you are searching for job and you can start work any time, does not mean you
should apply any time. It only depicts how desperate you are. To everything, there is season and time.
Employment goes on everyday, but not all companies give job everyday. That’s
one simple truth we have to understand. Companies have their specific time for
welcoming applications. Why most of our efforts are fruitless is because we
submit our applications at the wrong time and before the right time comes, ours
will be nowhere to be found. Most companies place adverts or recruits on
quarterly basis which may be on a 3-1 or 4-1. On a 3-1 basis, a quarter is made
of three months. In such case, a year is
made up of four quarters. It may be arranged thus; January to March, April to
June, July to September and October to December. In this case, your application
should be coming at the beginning of the quarter or at the tail end. The same
applies on a 4-1 case where there is only three quarters in a year and each
quarter comprising of four months. The
understanding of this journey will help you not to embark on a fruitless
journey.
Develop your Capacity
The future is deigned for those who are
prepared to walk into it without fear.
Preparation precedes success. Opportunity is only grateful to prepared
people. Any man that lives to eat up his
today will live to suffer in his tomorrow. There are two basic areas you need
to develop capacity;
i.
Human
Capacity Building or Personal Development
ii.
Professional
Development.
Capacity or Personal Development:
As
recorded by Wikipedia, personal development includes the activities that
improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human
capital and facilitate employability, enhance quality of life and realization
of dream and aspirations. It involves
improving self-awareness, self-knowledge, wealth, building or renewing
identity, developing strengths or talents, spiritual development, identifying
and improving potential, building employability or human capital, enhancing
lifestyle or the quality of life, improving health, fulfilling aspirations,
initiating a life enterprise or personal autonomy, defining and executing personal development
plan, improving social abilities, initiating, executing and improving a
development plan for impacting other people among others.
There
are five major areas you need capacity building;
i.
Intellectual
capacity
ii.
Psychological
or emotional capacity
iii.
Leadership
capacity
iv.
Character
capacity
v.
Spiritual
capacity
As
an intrapreneur, you must be balanced in these areas. Developing or building on these capacities
give you irresistible skills that are needed by prospective employers. Such skills like problem-solving skill,
analytical, critical and rational reasoning, communication and interpersonal,
leadership among others.
BUILD A NETWORK
From
my research and experience, job search had never been easy but you can decide
to make it easy by understanding that the labour market is an aggressive place
both for the prepared and the unprepared. This understanding will help you build an
effective and efficient stress management and response plan. Inasmuch you are prepared to out- rightly
compete over some, you also have to put in mind that there are most people that
are as prepared as you are and even some, more prepared than you. Having observed this as a serious limitation,
building an effective and efficient information and communication system
through networking will be an added advantage to. You have to also put this in mind, “In the
labour market, everybody is important”. The earlier you understand this, the
easier it becomes for you to build a dependable network. Embark on professional networking to enhance
your professional opportunities.
ACT
No
matter how resourceful you are, you are still a liability until you begin to
apply your resourcefulness. Most often, you have to be rugged to achieve what
you are seeking. Life does not have a space for but you have to doggedly create
and secure a space for your meaningful operation on earth. You must know your worth before you launch
else you will be frustrated and disappointed. All hope is backed up with corresponding
action for it to yield. Confidence is meaningless if there is no action. Action is the number one to success. Now that
you have prepared yourself and you know your worth, you have to launch out.
